My husband, Bud, and I got the "Log
Home Fever" when we were on a family vacation in Alaska. We stayed in a
small log cabin. This experience clenched the deal of our dream log home.
There is no other type of home that makes you feel so comfortable, and
in tune with nature. When you walk into our home you can feel the warmth
of the logs, even on a rainy day. Our home is located 30 miles from Portland,
Oregon. We get plenty of rain, however, our home is never dark and gloomy.
The warmth of the all wood interior is made of Eastern White Pine. The
prow front wall of windows adds plenty of light throughout the home. We
liked the look of the uniform size logs, therefore, we knew early on in
the planning process we wanted a milled log home. We chose an 8" round
log. We also liked the look of some character logs to add a more rustic
feel. Bud spent tedious hours cutting over 20 trees from our property and
hand peeling them. We used these logs inside the home to add character
and outside as deck posts on the wrap around deck. We wanted a focal point
in our home and decided to use a very large log as the main ridge beam.
This log is 55 ft long and 29" in diameter.
Chris and Cliff Wheeler played a
vital role in our log home experience. They are Authorized Dealers for
The Original Lincoln Logs, LTD and owners of Baker Pond Log Works. Chris
always provided prompt return calls and Cliff aided on the more technical
side of building process. We quickly found the floor plan we wanted. It
is called the Lake Vista. A few modifications were gladly made to the exterior
to accommodate our request of four gable dormers. Bud and I both work full
time, however, we were able to complete the building process in 1 year.
I played the role of the general contractor while my husband and sons,
Brad & Dustin worked endless hours in the construction process. We
hired a contractor specializing in log home construction to get us to a
weather tight stage. We enjoy our home daily. It truly has been a rewarding
experience that we love to share with others. We are proud to open our
home regularly for open houses. |
